Lake Ouachita State Park is on the
shore of Lake Ouachita in the beautiful Ouachita Mountains National Forrest.
Lake Ouachita State Park features included a new visitors center, restaurant,
cabins, and additional campsites. Other park facilities include a marina,
swimming area, hiking trails, two boat ramps, and interpretive exhibits at 3
sisters springs. The park can also provides eagle tours when the birds are
wintering in the area.
Lake Ouachita State Park was created on paper in 1955. No work was done at
the park site until 1965. Some of the 1930s-era have been renovated, but
most park structures were built during the early 1970s.
Stretching westward from the state park, Lake Ouachita (Wash’i taw)
extends some 35 miles into the headwaters of the Ouachita River spanning nearly half of
Garland and Montgomery Counties in west-central
Arkansas. The 40,000 acre lake is recognized as one of Arkansas’s superior fishing
lakes where bass, crappie, bream and catfish abound, Lake Ouachita is also
stocked with smallmouth bass, walleye and Striped Bass which add to the
fishing thrills. Lake Ouachita’s wide open waters and quiet coves offer fun
for water-skiers, sailing enthusiasts, kayakers and scuba divers.
